Comin Lao Handover Setthathirath Hospital

Vientiane, October 27th, 2021 – A handover ceremony was held at the Setthathirath Hospital for the for the recently completed Emergency Room/Outpatient Wing. Comin Lao is the MEP contractor. The building project was part of a USD17 million Japan Grant Aid Project for the construction of the ER/OP building and supply of equipment to Setthathirath Hospital and Champasack Hospital, both located in Vientiane. The handover ceremony was attended by Deputy Minister of Health Dr Snong Thongsana, JICA Laos Office Chief Representative Mr Toshio Nagase, and the Japanese Ambassador to Lao PDR amongst other dignatories.

The new building allows the hospital to provide the best possible facilities and care to patients covering a wide range of medical conditions. The ER/OP, the most advanced of its kind in Vientiane, is set up for the detection and treatment of communicable and lifestyle diseases. It is equipped with state of the art diagnostic equipment such as CT and mammography scanners, and as a first, the hospital uses electroencephalography (EEG) transcranial doppler ultrasonography (TCD). The building has a number of isolation rooms that can be reached individually from entrances from the outside.

Supporting the Japanese design concept, Comin Lao was appointed MEP contractor by Wakachiku Construction Company and successfully implemented the project following Japanese standards and way of working, with commitment and perseverance.

The engineering project ran from January 2019 to September 2021. Work was suspended from April 1st 2020 to November 22nd 2020 due to COVID lockdowns. In total the project covered 3,749m2 of building area, around 80,000m of cabling and 500m2 of ducting. Seventy Comin staff were deployed on the project led by Project Manager Moises Perdiguerra Jr.
