Power Generation
Hybrid Solar Solutions for Lao Telecom, Laos
As mobile network expansion moves to emerging markets where solar energy levels are more favorable, solar power appears ready to play an important role in reducing the costs of cellular device delivery and ensuring a more reliable power supply. The OEMs’ drive toward reduced base station power consumption, along with improvements in photovoltaic cells, have meant that solar energy is now a very viable solution for powering cellular base stations.
RMA Group Laos was contacted to improve Lao Telecom base station generators consumption, thus delivering and installing large solar panels, coupled with diesel generators and batteries, to 28 difficult-to-access locations throughout Northern Laos. On these 28 sites, solar power is now used in conjunction with other primary energy sources such as diesel or grid based electricity, but will increasingly be seen as a primary source for autonomous cell sites.
RMA also provided a practical solution to Lao Telecom by installing a complex Diesel Generators remote monitoring system, thus enabling the maintenance teams to receive all vital data via SMS messages directly on their mobile phones.
All 28 generators units can send failure-to-start, low fuel, low battery events etc. directly to maintenance technicians who have been allocated to the particular generator. In parallel, all events can be reported to a central server or computer, which will store the events in a dedicated file. The system is simple and effectively aimed at providing a practical solution for users with any number of generators in the field.
RMA also offers new possibilities to use renewable energy systems or combined systems as a reliable and cost efficient solution to supply energy to BTS (Base Telecommunication Systems) in remote areas:
- Utility Grid
- Diesel Genset
- Solar Power Supply
- Hybrid System: Solar/Wind
- Hybrid System: Solar/Wind/Genset
- Hybrid Utility Grid/Genset
- Hybrid Utility Grid/Back Up Batteries
RMA Turnkey Power Project Solutions: Power Plant For The Asian Development Bank
The Asian Development Bank for Rural Electrification contacted RMA for power plants and RMA delivered, by providing turnkey solutions including designing, engineering, building and installing all the necessary components for five plants, ranging from 2.5 megawatts to 140 megawatts.
Remote locations have never been a problem for RMA to offer products and services. Teams of technicians installed 1,000 generator units at 500 telecom operator’s sites in Afghanistan, many located at altitudes reaching 3000 meters.
